On October 6th, the Science Education team from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia continued its impactful community engagement through a Workshop on Deep Learning Implementation at SMPN 1 Kuningan. This activity is part of the follow-up to the BIMA PkM Grant program titled “STEAM-IoT Training for Junior High School Teachers in Designing Low Carbon Themed Projects.”
The workshop was led by two distinguished experts in science education:
-
Prof. Dr. phil. Ari Widodo, M.Ed.
Prof. Diana Rochintaniawati, M.Ed.
A total of 173 participants, consisting of science teachers and education practitioners, attended the session enthusiastically. The workshop focused on integrating deep learning approaches into science instruction, emphasizing meaningful student engagement, higher-order thinking, and environmentally conscious project design.
Participants were guided on how to connect classroom activities with real-world low-carbon themes using STEAM and IoT-based approaches. The facilitators also shared practical strategies for lesson implementation, reflection, and assessment to support deeper understanding rather than surface-level learning.
This program marks a strong continuation of previous online and onsite training sessions, reinforcing UPI’s commitment to empowering educators through innovation, sustainability, and transformative pedagogy. The large turnout demonstrates growing awareness and enthusiasm among teachers to adopt forward-thinking educational practices.
