The Doctoral Program in Mathematics Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) successfully underwent an international accreditation visit by the Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute (ACQUIN) on June 30–July 1, 2025. This visit was part of UPI’s strategic effort to enhance the international recognition and academic quality of its graduate programs, in alignment with its vision of becoming a Leading and Outstanding University.
The ACQUIN expert panel for the Mathematics and Science Education cluster—comprising Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, and Biology Education programs—was led by renowned international scholars, including Prof. Dr. Matthias Ludwig from Goethe University Frankfurt, a distinguished expert in Mathematics Didactics. His involvement as the main reviewer for the Mathematics Education program ensured a high standard and objective evaluation throughout the assessment process.
During the two-day visit, the panel held a series of in-depth meetings with faculty leaders, study program coordinators, academic staff, administrative personnel, students, and alumni. Specific sessions for the Mathematics Education program included prominent professors, lecturers, doctoral and master’s students, as well as alumni. The discussions focused on curriculum quality, teaching and learning processes, research output, and international collaborations.
The Doctoral Program in Mathematics Education at UPI has established itself as a national leader in educational research, particularly in the fields of Didactical Design Research and ethnomathematics. The program holds an “Excellent” accreditation from LAMDIK and is trusted by major national scholarship providers such as LPDP and BPI to educate their awardees. Its strong international network and research contributions have positioned it as a benchmark for other doctoral programs in Indonesia.
This ACQUIN accreditation visit marks a critical milestone for the program’s internationalization efforts. The outcomes of the review are expected to provide valuable insights for the program’s continuous improvement and to reinforce UPI’s role as a regional hub for advanced mathematics education and research in Southeast Asia and beyond.
